This Month's Spotlight:
Shawn Ferjanec : From Film Reels to Photo Feels: A Creative’s Journey to La Jolla
What's your claim to fame?
I'm a fine art photographer living in La Jolla. Besides photography I've been in the film industry for over 20 years as a Creative Director and editor.
Tell us the story behind what you do—how did your journey begin, and what motivates you today?
My wife and I are passionate world travelers, and I've always documented our adventures through photography, creating photo books as keepsakes. Eventually, friends began asking for prints of my work to use as artwork in their homes. That interest led me to get involved in the LA art scene, where I became a featured artist in the Venice Art Crawl and held exhibitions throughout Los Angeles.
How have your surroundings or lifestyle shaped your creative process, mindset, or brand ethos?
I have a soft spot for vintage travel photos and postcards. The faded colors and worn edges, shaped by countless hands reliving memories, give them a unique character. My background in the film industry has also influenced the way I approach photography, often viewing each scene through a cinematic lens.
What's currently inspiring you—whether it's a person, a place, a project, or something totally unexpected?
We recently moved to La Jolla, and the scenery here is absolutely stunning. I’m excited to get out and start creating new artwork inspired by the breathtaking landscapes that surround us.
What are your favorite rituals, spaces, or hidden spots that bring you joy or spark ideas?
I love flipping through old album covers and magazines—the color palettes from the '60s and '70s are incredible. There's something about the soft, faded and nostalgic tones from that era that continues to inspire my work.
WHAT'S HOT...
Some homes just have that look. I pulled together a few that caught my eye in Los Angeles and La Jolla—different styles, great design from various agents. These are current listings on the market. Enjoy!
If any stand out, I’d be happy to help you explore further and get you one step closer to your dream home. (click on photos for the Collections)

And the question I get asked the most:
How's the market?
In this week’s Compass Intelligence Weekly, Chief Economist Mike Simonsen breaks down the latest housing market data and uncovers a surprising trend: fewer and fewer homeowners are choosing to sell.
While home prices remain just slightly above 2024 levels, inventory is climbing—and yet, the number of new listings is flattening out. Mike calls this trend The Great Stay: Americans are staying in their homes, jobs, and towns longer, driven by high mortgage rates and a sluggish job market.
This week’s episode covers:
– New listings trend: why seller momentum has stalled
– Inventory growth and what it means for buyers
– Pending home sales and early signals for Q3
– Home prices holding—but barely
– Price reductions and what they reveal about buyer behavior.
